World Luxury Awards 2020: 2 wins for Hotel Plunhof
Best Spa Design Theme & Luxury Hotel Best Scenic Environment

The fine art of innovation means meeting current trends and combining them with evolved values and resources to create added, lasting value. This principle is the foundation of everything the Volgger family members do at the Plunhof.

Their unique destination Spa & Acqua Minera is an unparalleled wellness retreat that fuses the region’s traditions and the family’s historical roots with the spirit of the times and future trends in the tourism industry. Integrating the power of nature throughout the hotel is an essential part of the concept, as is the gentle and respectful use of natural resources. This approach has been fully recognised by bestowing two awards on the Plunhof at the World Luxury Awards 2020:

Wellness Hotel Plunhof****S, home of generations

‘We are stunned and delighted to have received these two awards at the World Luxury Awards 2020,’ says Thomas Volgger. ‘The vote is further substantiation that our guests love the way we do things. Our relationship with the natural world and evolved traditions were given to us in the cradle and accompany us as we stride into the future.’ In 2019, Plunhof secured the Global Win for Best Unique Experience Spa.

The Volgger family – mother Paula and her eight children – have integrated the region’s centuries-old tradition of mining into the hotel while also reinventing it in the unique spa’s future-oriented facilities. Both architecturally and conceptually, the spirit of mining is married with the primal forces of the Alps.

World Luxury Hotel, Spa & Restaurants Awards

The World Luxury Awards 2020 were presented on 9 November 2020 via video message. The grand gala planned to be held in Mauritius had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. More than 2,000 hotels from 150 countries were nominated in over 90 categories. In just four weeks, more than 700,000 online votes were cast.
The awards are given on a national, cross-national, continental and global level. The selection of winners includes votes by guests, international travel specialists and specialists and big players in the tourism industry. According to World Luxury marketing director Michael Hunter-Smith, brand, location and, above all, guest satisfaction play major roles in making the selections.

The World Luxury Awards were established in 2006. During the last 15 years, an elaborate assessment process has been finessed to illustrate and distinguish excellence in infrastructure, as well as the concept and product behind it and the quality of the implementation with a special focus on service. The Luxury Award Trophies are now given to spas (since 2010) and to restaurants (since 2015) as well as hotels.
