Our Hotel Plunhof is nestled in the Ridnaun valley, which has a lot to offer in terms of excursions. A real must is the Schneeberg Mining World, where silver, lead and zinc were mined until the 1980s and which fascinates with a 150km labyrinth of tunnels and machines that are still in working order. Wolfsthurn Castle, the only Baroque castle in South Tyrol, is home to the South Tyrolean Hunting and Fishing Museum. The miners' church of St. Magdalena in Gasse or the little church of St. Laurentius in Maiern are also of cultural and historical importance.

The nearby surroundings are perfect for a short side trip and half-day excursion. The Fugger town of Vipiteno, the castles Sprechenstein or Reifenstein, the Gilfenklamm gorge, the only marble gorge in Europe, one of the largest monasteries in Tyrol - the still active Augustinian monastery of Neustift and the imposing fortress of Franzensfeste from the Habsburg era - all attract visitors. Numerous alpine pastures and viewpoints are also worth a visit.

Vipiteno, Bressanone, Chiusa and Bolzano - strolling in the cities

The town of Vipiteno, which gave itself the surname Fuggerstadt after the rich trading dynasty of the Fuggers from Augsburg, impresses with its imposing façades and old town houses. Sightseeing tips are the Zwölferturm tower, the town hall and the Heilig-Geist-hospital with large-scale frescoes by the master Hans von Bruneck. A little further south are the towns of Bressanone and Chiusa, which also boast pleasant town centres with secluded arcades. The provincial capital of Bolzano delights with even more highlights: Ötzi Museum, Fruit Market, Walther Square, Natural History Museum and Messner Mountain Museum - MMM Firmian.
